Mexico as a strategic bridge between North America and Europe

In a global context marked by uncertainty, the relationship between North America, the European Union, and Mexico represents a strategic opportunity to boost innovation, competitiveness, and economic cooperation.

This was stated by Dr. Jacobo Ramos Folch, international policy consultant and visiting professor at the University of Navarra, during the panel "Economic, Political, and Trade Perspectives in the New North American Economic Order," held at the COPARMEX 2025 International Meetings.

Economic and technological cooperation between regions

Ramos emphasized that, despite the European Union's economic challenges, collaboration with North America can open new horizons: "Trying to adopt a regional perspective can promote strategic autonomy in the technological sense." He explained that digitalization, data security, and innovation are key areas where both regions can advance together.

The specialist emphasized the importance of focusing not only on large multinationals, but also on SMEs: "We must not forget SMEs... they are essential for the formalization of small businesses and for an attractive investment climate." He stressed that bi-regional cooperation can offer them access to financing, training, and new markets.

Dual education and human capital for competitiveness

Similarly, Mexican economist Gabriela Siller Pagaza emphasized that greater regionalization benefits Mexico: "It's quite possible that this trade competition will also be more intense with the European Union, and that's where Mexico can gain market share."

He emphasized that the country must strengthen its infrastructure and energy sector to establish itself as a reliable partner. Ramos also emphasized educational models that link academia and industry, such as the German dual education system. He noted that COPARMEX, in cooperation with the Mexican-German Chamber of Commerce, has been a pioneer in promoting this system in Mexico, which opens the door to more programs that strengthen local talent and facilitate collaboration with Europe.

Conclusions

The panel's conclusion was clear: Mexico, together with its North American and European partners, has the capacity to become a strategic bridge for innovation and sustainability, generating benefits for both businesses and society.
